Google’s Recent Algorithm Change and the SEO Implications

Google changes it Algorithm about 500 times a year. If you in the industry of Search Engine Optimization, this keeps you busy and it is vital to stay ahead of the game.

Google recently made a significant change to its search Algorithm which will impact its users and SEO specialist in a significant way.  Its especially signifigant to Google’s users.  Here is why:

Google fellow Amit Singhal said the algorithms will automatically look for the most recent results even if the user does not specify it in his or her search. Google Search uses a freshness algorithm, designed to give the most up-to-date results.

While this seems to mimic a “Twitter” sort of experience. There has been reactions across the SEO community to the algorithm update. There seems to be a divide over whether or not Google putting relevance on freshness will indeed provide a higher quality for readers. Most of the skepticism comes from those are not sure whether or not Google will know when recency should truly be important.

While there is a significant impact to SEO specialist, the change is not something unfamliar to SEO professionals. The change will basically will make optimizers have to work harder. It well known that Google crawlers are drawn to new and updated content. Implementing a blog into a companies website has been a common practice for years.  Now we know that Googles army of web bots have been further tuned  to sniff out and index new content. This undoubtly will place a new emphasis on the Search Engine Optimizers, Web master or article writers to produce even more new and updated content. This strategy should have already been in place but should hold a higher emphasis.

Singhal went on to say “We completed our Caffeine web indexing system last year, which allows us to crawl and index the web for fresh content quickly on an enormous scale. Building upon the momentum from Caffeine, today we’re making a significant improvement to our ranking algorithm that impacts roughly 35 percent of searches and better determines when to give you more up-to-date relevant results for these varying degrees of freshness,” Singhal said in a blog post

Here is a relevant video produces by Google back in August 2011 in how they make improvements to their algorithms.
