Tumblr hits over 20 Billion post on Monday and was announced early on Wednesday morning. A tweet from Tumblr Official Twitter page very modestly proclaims “Forgot to make a big deal of this earlier, but Tumblr crossed the 20-billion-post mark Monday night,” with a link to Tumblr’s About page. Since the 20 Billion Total post barrier, there has been an additional 60 million posts!
Tumblr is a microblogging platform and social networking website. It is owned and operated by Tumblr, Inc. The web service enables users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form blog. These short-form blogs are called “tumblelogs.” Tumblr has experienced a massive growth in the past year and it was reported that Tumblr has more blogs then the popular WordPress.com . Although, WordPress blogs have the ability to have off site hosting so these numbers could be argued.
We all know that the Tumblr crew in New York must keep pretty busy. The idea of hitting the 20Billion post barrier and not press release this in some form or another amazes me. At least send out a timely tweet on the matter. Either way the growth that we are seeing from social networking sites such as , Tumblr and Pinterest prove that you don’t have to be Facebook to experience massive numbers and traffic. Now the question is how long will they be able to hold on to these numbers.?
What is your thoughts, do you think that Tumblr is fueling off buzz or do you think they have the longevity to continue increasing their numbers and retain a loyal user base?
With all this hype makes me want to dive deeper into Tumblr to see what I am missing. I only went as far as profile creation! What is the appeal of Tumblr, what am I missing? Let me know!
